Accomplishments
Partner
with Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen, where he has practiced since
1986. Richard has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer of Illinois and
an Illinois Super Lawyer. In Missouri, he was noted as achieving a top
defense verdict (2004, 2010) by Missouri Lawyers Weekly. Richard has
handled cases in the areas of insurance coverage, construction
accidents, premises liability, class action disputes, wrongful death,
medical malpractice, catastrophic personal injury, products liability
and professional liability.
Before attending law
school, Richard studied small group communication and problem solving
as part of his graduate studies in the field of communications. Much
of the same academic research in those areas is utilized in the study
of effective mediation and alternative dispute resolution. After
becoming a lawyer, Richard practiced for over 15 years in Winnebago
County, Illinois - the venue where the Illinois Supreme Court
implemented its pilot court annexed mediation project for all civil
cases. In 2002, Richard relocated to Heyl Royster's Edwardsville
office to assist his firm in the handling of civil cases, including
class action, medical device and professional liability disputes. Over
his twenty-five years as a practicing attorney, Richard has
participated in over a hundred mediations in many jurisdictions
throughout the Mid-West, including Chicago, Northern Illinois,
Wisconsin, Southern Illinois and St. Louis. His training in
communication studies coupled with his experience as a trial lawyer
make him an excellent choice to guide parties through the successful
mediation of complicated disputes. For additional information
